Los Suenos, Costa Rica - The fishing was always there in Costa Rica with terrific number of sailfish and plenty of three Marlin species in the water, sports fishing was an option round the year. Previously most of the sports fishing actions were centered round Falmingo in the north. In 20013 a sprawling resort and marina was constructed in Costa Rica’s central Pacific coast well-known to the fishing community simply as Los Suenos. Before development of this resort, sport fishing in Costa Rica was much more a rustic phenomenon.
However, the variety of marine fishes found in the Costa Rican waters is the main factor that makes this place ideal for sports fishing. Blue Marlin, Black Marlin, Striped Marlin, Sailfish and Sword Fish are some of the many varieties found in the water of this region. The calm water and short distance to the fishing grounds make Los Suenos Resort in Costa Rica a popular choice among the game fishers. The region brings sports, recreation and tourism all together in one place. Another reason for which the resorts are famous is the number of competitive tournaments hosted each year.
Most of the sports fishing tournaments are held from January through March. All the tournaments have now evolved and become known as Los Suenos Signature Triple Crown. It is divided into three legs. Almost 50 of the world’s best teams fight for three days with no breaks in each leg. And hundreds and thousands of dollars are put at stake. Fishing hours usually start at 8:00 am and continues till 4:00pm daily.
Maximum five anglers are permitted in each boat every day. Teams can substitute their team members in successive tournaments. However, they need to keep two of the team mates original to compete for the title.
New this season
For the first time the organizers have announced ladies only non-professional fishing tournament. It will be a single day event and will be first held on January 15, 2019. The team will be allowed to register name of 4 lady anglers. However, no professionals will be allowed on boat. There will be a qualified observer from tournament organizers in each boat. Teams will target sailfish and marlins. For marlins they will bag 500 points, where as the sailfish will bring in 100 points.
Los Suenos has lot to offer in off-shore amenities. Apart from the luxury accommodations, in between tournament you can relax in a full-service spa or explore the nearby Playa Jaco, Playa Hermosa or Playa Herradura for a day.
