For Good: The Songs that Changed Me For the Better is a cabaret event featuring songstress Deanna Maio. At Portland’s historic Peninsula Odd Fellows Lodge, Deanna performs the songs that highlighted her journey as a musician, actress, and performer from classic show tunes, adult contemporary favorites, swinging jazz standards, inspirational ballads, and more. Starting with her humble beginnings singing into a hairbrush or dancing around her bedroom to cast albums borrowed from the library, we’ll follow Deanna from her Indiana roots to her first professional theater job, the recording of her EP Deanna & the Downbeats, her first published book, to the creation of her first musical show and the birth of Portland Musical Theater Company. With Deanna’s signature storytelling approach, each song is like a mini-play that will have you laughing and feeling inspired and joyful. In this supper club-like environment, you’ll enjoy the music at your candle-lit bistro table. Beer, wine, plated desserts, snacks and more are available for a suggested donation. This is the perfect respite from a busy week and makes a great date night or a fun evening out with friends. You’ll hear favorites like: “If I Knew You Were Coming I’d a Baked a Cake,” “My Man” from Funny Girl, “Mambo Italiano” by Rosemary Clooney, “Singing in the Rain,” “Somewhere” from West Side Story, “I Feel the Earth Move” and many more. Joining her are Deanna’s jazz duo the Downbeats on piano and bass. Don’t be surprised if you see Deanna break out her ukulele or kazoo at some point. Beer, wine, plated desserts, snacks and more are available for a suggested donation. All proceeds benefit Portland Musical Theater Company.
