Jazz is not dead — especially when you’ve got the Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia keeping it alive for the people. Led by Artistic Director Terrell Stafford, this 17-piece ensemble is dedicated to preserving Philly’s rich jazz history through education and electric performances. For this concert at Kennedy Center’s Verizon Hall, they’ll be joined by organist Joey DeFrancesco. Arguably the greatest organist in the genre, DeFrancesco single-handedly brought the Hammond B3 organ back into the public eye. Mentored by the legendary Jimmy Smith, DeFrancesco has won the Down Beat Critics Poll for nine consecutive years, earned four Grammy nominations and is the winner of numerous JazzTimes Awards.
