To Kill a Mockingbird on Stage
Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel To Kill a Mockingbird, years after its release, has left a lasting impact on both school classrooms and modern society. Adapted for the stage by Christopher Sergel (plus a 1962 movie starring the bad-a** Gregory Peck), this moving play follows Scout's journey as her attorney father, Atticus, defends a black man framed for a crime he did not commit. As the trial progresses, Scout and her brother Jem witness their community divided over issues of racism and justice. The Lakewood Center for the Arts now brings the powerful story to the Portland area.
